Introduction
In response to the rapidly growing Halal industry development in Malaysia,  the International Islamic University Malaysia, with its academic and research strength and conducive Islamic environment has established a special centre dedicated to Halal industry - “IIUM Halal Industry Research Centre” in July 2006.
The International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART) was established at the  International Islamic University Malaysia by IIUM Senate (Mac 2011) and IIUM Majlis (April 2011) and received approval from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia in August 2011. INHART is a centre of excellence at the university level and is expected to be recognized as one of The Higher Institutions' Centres of Excellence (HICoE) at the national level in the near future.
The objective of the establishment of INHART is to provide a platform for IIUM to assist in fulfilling the Government of Malaysia aspiration to put Malaysia as the global Halal hub through INHART's long-term education (undergraduates and postgraduates academic programmes) and specialized short-term training programmes as well as shariah-compliant services. INHART aims to train future leaders in the Halal industry arena as well as to provide the required well-trained human capital to cater the needs of the halal industry in the research, development, innovation and commercialization of halal food, pharmaceuticals and consumer products as well as various shariah-compliant service industries like tourism and hospitality. 

Programme Overview 
These three-day programme suitable for Halal Certified organization and companies that is in the process of obtaining Halal Certification from the Halal Authority. The module covers all the halal aspects such as Quality Management System: Requirements from Islamic Perspective (MS1900:2005 & MS 2300:2009) as well as GMP and HACCP. 
The module will assist participants especially the Halal Committee Member/ Halal Officer to practices and maintain the implementation of halal and it requirements. Furthermore, the audit exercise is in accordance to Halal Certification Process and the Malaysia Halal Standards.

Programme Objectives
 At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Describe and apply the requirements of halal certification & Malaysian Standards 
  • Demonstrate that halal integrity is well maintained within the organisation 
  • Enhance Halal knowledge & Competencies
  • Prepare themselves to conduct the internal halal audit program within their own organization in obtaining and 
  • maintaining halal certification from JAKIM/

The Trainers

Ahmad Azudin bin Abd Khalid

was appointed as Halal Standards & Systems of International Halal Integrity Alliance (IHIA). He first joined IHIA in July 2008 as the Manager for Halal Standards & Systems. With hisknowledge and experience in the hospitality industries (restaurants, hotels and retail) and in training and development, he has since coordinated and managed the development of four (4) modules of the Global Halal Standard initiated by IHIA and presented at the World Halal Forum2009. The four modules are logistics, food service, animal welfare and animal slaughter (poultry, bovine and ovine).
 Ahmad Azudin  received his tertiary education from the University of Tennessee, USA majoring in Civil Engineering: Structural.Upon graduation in 1988, Ahmad Azudin decided to start his career in the food industry starting with Silver Spoon Cafe's outlet at Kennesaw, Georgia, USA. During his tenure, Ahmad Azudin  was appointed as a Corporate Trainer for Morrison's Incorporated. He was responsible for operation systems set-up and training of new employees.Upon returning to Malaysia in 1994 after six (6) years with Silver Spoons, he joined Value Inn Management Sdn Bhd, posted at Merit Sri Sayang Resort Apartments in Batu Ferringhi, Penang as F&B Executive and later as Banquet Sales Executive.  
Ahmad Azudin's main responsibilities included planning of sales & marketing and promotion activities for room and banquet for the resort, developing SOP's (standard operating procedures) for the F&B department, facilitating QCC (quality control circle), and staff training and development. Following the expansion plan of the company, Ahmad Azudin  was transferred to the Value Inn Klang in 1996 to set-up systems in the Sales & Marketing department.
Among his other duties at Value Inn Klang included administering the Accounts Payables, handling of raw materials procurement for the hotel's F&B division (banquet department and M&D's Italian restaurant). Ahmad Azudin  switched his career to the retail industry at Carrefour Malaysia in 1999 and started as Sales Manager at one of Carrefour's outlet in Subang Jaya. He was put in charge to manage the salad bar department before being transferred to Jalan Peel (Cheras) outlet in 2003 to set-up the Fruits & Vegetables department.
Among Ahmad Azudin's major responsibilities as Sales Manager was managing daily operations of the department, designing and modifying operations systems to ensure optimum productivity, guaranteeing food quality and maintaining hygiene standards, recruitment and development of professional skills of staff for career advancement, monitoring and analyzing of sales, profit margin, labor cost and managing stock inventory on weekly basis.  
Ahmad Azudin  was selected as one of the trainers for Carrefour's training program in Halal & Hygiene, quality control, customer service and stock card / production card analysis. Ahmad Azudin  was promoted to Carrefour's head office in 2006 to set-up the Halal department for the company. He was able to design, implement and monitor the Halal & Hygiene audit system for a multinational hypermarket chain and responsible for all Halal related matters such as supplier selection, Halal & Hygiene training, customers' grievances pertaining to Halal and administering the Halal application for all Carrefour'slocal house brand. Ahmad Azudin  has established the "Carrefour Halal Guidelines" in 2006, and the "Carrefour Halal Audit System" in 2007 which is used as the basis in implementing the Halal procedures in Carrefour Malaysia. 
Product and process segregation between halal and non-halal products were established to ensure the confidence of Muslim consumers. Participating in Halal related seminars and providing consultation to local Bumiputera entrepreneurs in developing Halal products, organizing SMI/SME promotional events were some of Ahmad Azudin's accomplishments, whilst concurrently ensuring Carrefour Malaysia's success in promoting Halal products.
During his tenure as National Halal & Hygiene Manager and later redesignated to Entrepreneur Development Manager,  Ahmad Azudin  represented Carrefour Malaysia as guest speaker at Halal related seminars. Hard work and determination enabled for Ahmad Azudin  to win the "Corporate Social Responsibility" Halal Journal award at the 2008 World Halal Forum for Carrefour Malaysia
                                             
Tuan Haji Saifol Haji Bahli
General Manager, International Institute For Halal Research & Training (INHART)

Tuan Haji Saifol Bahli is currently the General Manager and a trainer for INHART.  In 1993, he completed his first degree in Food Technology after getting Diploma in Public Health from Institute of Public Health Malaysia. He is a qualified ISO 9000 Internal Quality Auditor and Environmental Impact Assessor and also Occupational Safety & Health Management practitioner.A very well experienced in Halal Industry domestic and internationally, as he have been with Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) managing Training & Consultancy Dept from 2008 until 2011 where he has establish Halal Training programmes, Halal Executive Programmes beside coordinating initiatives  with all related government agency and organisation on Halal matters especially Halal Hub Division of JAKIM.
Hj Saifol  has presented in many seminars or conferences, locally and internationally, on halal and its related matters such as Halal Industry Perspectives, Halal Challenges, International Halal Certification etc. Among his past experience is as Head, Quality Assurance & Hygiene with In-flight Catering & Services.
Assoc. Prof. Dr Noriah Ramli
Halal Industry Research Centre 
Dr Noriah Ramli is currently a lecturer; Kuliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia. In 1990, she completed her first degree at IIUM and Master of Comparative Law (MCL) in 1992. At the same university, she received her PHD, focus in Malaysian Food Law and Halal Food in 2006. Dr Noriah is a qualified Halal trainer and had attended ‘Train of Trainer” (TOT) organized by Halal Development Corporation (HDC), 2007.
 She also attended Halal Training Consensus Workshop, 12-13th March 2008, One World Hotel, One Utama, PJ, Organized by HDC. HDC has appointed Dr Noriah as their Exclusive Trainer for Halal Training Programs. Being an active member of Muslim Consumer Association of Malaysia (PPIM and is appointed Panelist for Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA/LAN)
